On
either the first or second Sunday of the month, we have a
group of 2-4 youth volunteers assist a MOS adult team at the
Communion service for the Catholic residents.
It's about one hour from 10:30 - 11:30am. There is a Communion
Service that takes place in the dining room. You can help
by wheeling residents into the dining room (no drivers license
necessary), sit with them, hold their hand during the Our
Father, shake hands at the sign of peace, and just visit with
them.
Some
of the MOS adults also bring Communion room-to-room while
the Communion service is going on in the dining room. Youth
group members can also be teamed up with the adult team to
visit rooms as well. This is a VERY special experience and
we can make sure you get a chance to do this. The adults bring
Jesus to the residents or will offer blessings to those residents
who cannot physically received Communion. You simply gather
around, pray the 'Our Father' with them and smile!
Isn't
that easy!??
You
know, we can help our lonely and sick brothers and sisters
simply be being with them and offering a friendly face. We've
shared some beautiful moments of love, laughter, and prayer
with these special people.
The students that have been doing this for the past few years
know how much the "old folks' LOVE to see you - it makes
their day and you really don't have to do much at all! Just
pray with them, smile at them, etc. Some teens have even made
lasting friendships as a result of their visits.
